About the Apprenticeship

As an apprentice, you will gain in-depth knowledge of risks and the insurance market in order to arrange suitable policies & cover for your clients. You will learn how to be an effective intermediary between our clients and insurance companies.  Fair View Insurance is a great place to learn as we have a wide range of clients and interesting specialisms like working in sectors like retail, Construction etc..so it is a wonderful learning environment.

 General Responsibilities will include:

  • Gather information from clients, assessing their insurance needs and risk profile;
  • Research insurance companies' policies and negotiate with underwriters to find the most suitable insurance for your clients at the best price;
  • Ensure that your clients understand the terms and the extent of the cover provided in line with industry regulations;
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with your clients;
  • Keep detailed records and complete administrative tasks such as paperwork and correspondence;
  • Develop relationships with underwriters, surveyors, and other industry professionals;
  • Keep up with changes in the insurance market and in your clients' industries;

 

About You:

You should be:

  • Focused, diligent & be committed to work and studying for a level 8 education programme at the same time
  • Able to communicate effectively (in both written and verbal form)
  • Willing to be part of a team 
  • Take ownership & accountability for own actions and responsibilities
  • Have attention to detail and time management skills,
  • Have the ability to manage own workload and have strong relationship building skills
  • Have the intention to commit to programme for 3 years and do the study and work in tandem.

Minimum Entry Level Requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Mature students – if over 23 years there are no minimum educational requirements - documented interview required 
  • FETAC Level 5 qualification holders*
  • Between 18 and under 23 years – Leaving certificate, minimum of 160 points to include two honours in higher level paper and passes in Maths and English/Irish with specific requirements on grades/levels*

In your first year you will embark on your college course in Insurance Practitionership with ATU while studying towards your insurance exams with the Life Insurance Association (LIA). Full development and support will be given with a mentor, supervisor, buddy and a targeted development programme from the Aviva Group Early Careers team.  

At the end of your 3-year apprenticeship you will have gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Insurance Practice (Apprenticeship), APA and QFA qualifications alongside professional development modules.

The Zurich Apprenticeship in Ireland is a unique opportunity to enter into the fast paced, varied and exciting world of Insurance with Zurich Insurance, a leading provider in the industry. Based out of the Zurich Centre, Kerlogue Business Park Rosslare Road, Co. Wexford, this 3 year earn and learn programme will equip participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to become a valuable contributor to the success of our business while developing their own rewarding career as an Insurance Professional. Graduating apprentices will gain a Level 8 honours degree - the BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice from the Atlantic Technological University, Sligo.

The Zurich Apprenticeship in Ireland will be kicking of its 10th edition of the programme in our General Insurance business, Co Wexford.

 

More about the programme

The Apprenticeship in Insurance Practice is a programme that runs over three years, which on successful completion, will result in the apprentice receiving a BA honours degree (level 8) in Insurance Practice awarded through the Atlantic Technological University Sligo, the education provider for the programme. The Apprenticeship programme is based on an 'earn and learn' model and the cost of the course is fully funded by the Government while the employer covers the cost of the salary of the apprentice. This means that the apprentices will work full-time in a role with one day a week on average set aside for formal learning, through a distance learning module.

Qualifying for the programme

Leaving Certificate Requirements:

Prior to 2017:

  • A minimum of 4 grade Ds at Ordinary Level and 2 Grade C3 at Higher Level
  • Leaving Certificate subjects must include Mathematics and English or Irish
  • An E grade in Higher Level Mathematics, and a B2 in Foundation Mathematics is a minimum entry requirement
  • A minimum of 140 points is required for entry to all Level 8 courses.

2017 onwards:

  • A minimum of 4 grades 4o6/H7 and 2 grade H5 or higher Leaving Certificate subjects
  • Leaving Certificate subjects must include Mathematics and English or Irish
  • With English or Irish with O6/H7 and Mathematics with F2/o6/H7
  • A minimum of 160 points is required for entry to all Level 8 courses

For students who are over 23 on January 1st of the year of entry, interviews and other selection tools will be used to assess suitability, replacing the minimum requirements above.  www.earnandlearn.ie

Learners who have a full FETAC level 5 qualification or higher will also be eligible to join the programme.

Underwriting Apprentice: Our Underwriting Apprentices work alongside and learn from some of the most skilled underwriters in the industry. We will teach you how to work with our customers and you’ll get to spend time building relationships with our brokers (and other parts of the business), helping secure new business while ensuring our existing customers get the best solutions, tailored to their wants and needs. Everything you do will have an impact on Aviva and our customers, so you’ll need to be passionate about delivering the best service and results.  
 
In your first year you will embark on your college course in Insurance Practitionership with ATU while studying towards your insurance exams with the Insurance Institute of Ireland (III). Full development and support will be given with a mentor, supervisor, buddy and a targeted development programme from the Aviva Group Early Careers team.  

At the end of your 3-year apprenticeship you will have gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Insurance Practice (Apprenticeship), APA and CIP qualifications alongside professional development modules.  
 
You’ll spend 4 days a week working in the role and 1 day working towards your qualifications. This is a brilliant learning environment – a place where everyone is welcome to share ideas, ask questions, and seek out advice.

  • A good analytical mindset and enjoy using your problem-solving skills. 
  • The desire to build relationships and feel comfortable engaging with people at all levels of the business.
