About the role

In line with the Apprenticeship guidelines, Apprentices may be assigned to Advisory, Personal Lines or Wholesale.

The apprentice will be an integral part of their respective teams, while also undertaking the CIP exams and a Level 8 degree in Business Studies through ATU Sligo.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Flexibility to work securing renewals, processing amendments, cross selling and up selling across all product lines
  • Good negotiation and sales skills
  • Manage renewals, client retention in line with targets and compliance
  • Ensuring all aspects of Mid-Term Alterations, Renewals, Accounts entry, claims liaison, Correspondence are completed
  • Ensuring all files are up to date on Relay
  • Manage clients across depts. handling renewals, MTA's and queries in relation to Personal Lines products

Overall purpose of the role

Broker Role

As an apprentice you will gain in-depth knowledge of risks and the insurance market in order to arrange suitable policies & cover for your clients. You will learn how to be an effective intermediary between our clients and insurance companies.

Responsibilities of Insurance Brokers;

  • Gather information from your clients, assessing their insurance needs and risk profile;
  • Research insurance companies’ policies and negotiate with underwriters to find the most suitable insurance for your clients at the best price;
  • Ensure that your clients understand the terms and the extent of the cover provided in line with industry regulations;

Year 1

Qualification: Accredited Product Advisor (APA Life & Loans)

Year 2

Once you’re settled into your role, you will start to specialise more with regards your technical insurance modules and be learning more around wider business concepts including marketing principles, service development, E-business and innovation, and negotiation in practice.

Qualification: Certificate in Professional Financial Advice (QFA)

Year 3

Once you’re settled into your role, you will start to specialise more with regards your technical insurance modules and be learning more around wider business concepts including marketing principles, service development, E-business and innovation, and negotiation in practice.

Qualification: BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice

The CIÉ Group Risk Department, based in Bridgewater House, Islandbridge, Dublin 8 is responsible for minimizing the Group's exposure to financial risk. It services the needs of its three clients across three different but intertwined functions:

Role Profile

This position is geared towards someone who is flexible, adaptable and interested in career progression.

We are seeking an apprentice with the right attitude, i.e. an innate desire for continual learning, willingness to work as part of a team in getting the job done and focussed in self-developing so as to challenge the status quo when needed. Strong technical, analytical and communication skills are a must.

The Opportunity

Responsibilities will vary dependent on the business area assigned, but may include the following:

  • Quote, convert, renew and maintain general insurance policies for new and existing customer
  • Process Claims
  • Service our customers via inbound and outbound telephone calls, emails and general administration
  • Consistently demonstrate our high customer service standards by ensuring a high level of customer engagement and meeting and exceeding customer expectations whilst acting with integrity
  • Proactively anticipate customer issues and taking appropriate action
  • Continually improve quality and efficiency within the team

**The Apprenticeship programme is a work-based learning programme and requires timely submission of on the job assessments, attendance at and successful attainment of IT Sligo and CIP exams as part of the programme. **

About the Apprentice programme

Joining the AIG Apprentice Programme is a great way to enhance your business acumen and gain insight into a large corporation, as well as learn more about the insurance industry. Placement students are placed into substantive roles that have an immediate and integral impact on the business. You’ll specialise in one of the core industry areas – underwriting, claims, operations or direct client advice.

The Apprenticeship in Insurance Practice is a programme that runs over three years, which on successful completion, will result in the apprentice receiving a BA honours degree (level 8) in Insurance Practice awarded through Atlantic Technological University (ATU), the education provider for the programme. The Apprenticeship programme is based on an 'earn and learn' model and the cost of the course is fully funded by the Government while the employer covers the cost of the salary of the apprentice. This means that the apprentices will work full-time in a role in Dublin with one day a week on average set aside for formal learning, through a distance learning module. This role will be a three-year fixed term contract.
