Existing Apprentice Testimonial

A note from our existing apprentice, Gavin Hayes:

When I started as an apprentice with Power Insurances, I had no previous experience in insurance, so everything was new to me. At the beginning, the hardest part was learning the systems and getting used to all the insurance terms, as it can feel like a different language when you first start. The support from the team made a big difference. There was always someone willing to explain things, answer questions, and help me build confidence. I have since completed my APA and I am now working towards my CIP, while gaining hands-on experience dealing with clients, insurers, and a range of insurance products across personal lines and some commercial lines. The study side does take commitment, but there is great support provided through Sligo ATU, The Insurance Institute, and our employers. The apprenticeship has helped me gain qualifications, real experience, and a career path I can continue to build on.

About the Job Role:

As an Insurance Apprentice, you will develop in-depth knowledge of insurance products, risk assessment, and customer service. You will learn how to act as a trusted adviser, helping clients protect their businesses, homes, vehicles, and livelihoods.

What this role entails:

  • Obtain quotations from insurers and assist in arranging suitable cover.
  • Support the renewal process and identify opportunities to improve client protection.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and insurance companies.
  • Ensure clients understand their insurance cover and policy terms.
  • Assist with claims enquiries and support clients throughout the claims process.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete administrative duties efficiently.
  • Learn about commercial, motor, farm, liability, and personal insurance products.
  • Develop an understanding of risk management and insurance solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Keep up to date with industry developments, regulations, and market trends.

About You:

We are looking for someone who demonstrates potential, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.

You should be:

  • Customer-focused and passionate about helping people.
  • Motivated to build a professional career in insurance.
  • Committed to balancing work and study over the three-year programme.
  • A strong communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Reliable and accountable for your work.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.
  • Curious, eager to learn, and willing to take initiative.
  • Able to manage your time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.

Previous insurance experience is not required.

What We Offer

  • Competitive starting salary.
  • Paid professional education and examination support.
  • Structured career development pathway.
  • Mentoring and coaching from experienced insurance professionals.
  • Opportunity to progress into a permanent insurance advisory role.
