About the Role

JDM Insurance Services is an established independent insurance broker providing tailored insurance solutions to individuals and businesses across Ireland. We are now seeking an Insurance Apprentice to join our team as part of the national Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship programme.

This is an excellent opportunity for a school leaver or career changer to build a long-term career in insurance while earning a salary and working towards a Level 8 Honours Degree in Insurance Practice, alongside industry-recognised professional qualifications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with policy administration, renewals, and mid-term adjustments
  • Supporting Account Executives and Account Handlers on client files
  • Liaising with insurers and underwriters to obtain quotations and documentation
  • Maintaining accurate client and policy records in line with regulatory requirements
  • Providing a high standard of customer service to clients
  • Completing academic and professional study requirements as part of the apprenticeship programme

 

The Apprenticeship

This role is offered in conjunction with the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship, a three-year, earn-while-you-learn programme leading to:

  • BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice (QQI Level 8)
  • Professional qualifications such as APA / CIP / QFA (role dependent)

Student registration fees to ATU Sligo will be funded by company

Get to know the role: Life Insurance Apprentice

As an apprentice in our Commercial Propositions team, you’ll work alongside and learn from experienced professionals across a variety of disciplines — including actuaries, social media specialists and product owners. Together, they support new product builds and ensure existing customers get solutions that meet their needs.

You’ll also work with colleagues across Aviva to build strong relationships and gain insight into how different teams contribute to our customer experience. Everything you do will help shape customer outcomes, so you’ll need to be curious, proactive and passionate about delivering great results.

In your first year, you’ll begin the Insurance Practitionership course with ATU and start working towards your Life Insurance exams with the LIA. You’ll be supported every step of the way with a mentor, supervisor, buddy and the Aviva Group Early Careers development programme.

By the end of your three‑year apprenticeship, you’ll have completed a BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice, along with your APA and QFA qualifications — plus valuable professional and personal development experience.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Claims Handler to join our Claims team. This role is based in our personal injury claims team and designed for individuals looking to start their career in insurance and gain hands-on experience in claims handling.
 

The successful candidate will gradually learn to handle personal injury claims from inception to closure, attend court hearings, negotiate settlements with solicitors, meet with clients & brokers/Insurers and ultimately to bring such claims to a successful and economical conclusion.

Broker Role

As an apprentice, you will gain in-depth knowledge of the Mortgage and Insurance market and experience to arrange suitable products and policies for your clients. You will learn how to be an effective intermediary between our clients and The Mortgage Lenders & Insurance companies. 

  • Gather information from your clients, assessing their insurance needs and risk profile.
  • Research insurance companies' policies and negotiate with underwriters to find the most suitable insurance for your clients at the best price.
  • Research Mortgage Options from the lenders to find the most suitable mortgage product for your clients at the best price.
  • Ensure that your clients understand the terms and the extent of the cover provided in line with industry regulations.
  • Foresee your clients' insurance needs, such as policy renewals or amendments.
  • Arrange specialised types of insurance cover in complex cases; this may involve preparing reports for insurance underwriters and surveyors and negotiating with insurers.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with your clients.

Eligibility

Leaving Certificate Requirements
(2017 onwards)

  • A minimum of 4 grade O6/H7 and 2 grade H5 or higher Leaving Certificate subjects
  • Within these six minimum grades with English or Irish with O6/H7, and Mathematics with F2/O6/H7
  • A minimum of 160 points is required for entry to all Level 8 courses

 

(Prior 2017)

  • A minimum of 4 grade Ds at Ordinary Level and 2 grade C3 at Higher Level. Leaving Certificate subjects must include Mathematics and English or Irish
  • An E grade in Higher Level Mathematics, or a B2 in Foundation Mathematics is a minimum entry requirement
  • A minimum of 160 points is required for entry to all Level 8 courses

 

The applicant must also have completed all of the following requirements:

  • H5 or Higher in 2 subjects
  • O6 or H7 or Higher in 4 additional Subjects
  • O6 or H7 in English or Irish (included in 1 or 2 above)

The applicant must also satisfy the mathematics requirement as outlined below:

  • H7 in Higher Level Mathematics
  • O6 in Ordinary Level Mathematics

FETAC Awards and Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements for graduates of FETAC (Level 5 or 6) awards to an Honours Degree Course (NFQ Level 8) is a full cognate FETAC (Level 5 or 6) award to include distinction grades in at least three components.
A full FETAC Level 5 or 6 major award will have a minimum credit value of 120. Component awards, or achievement of less than 120 credits, do not constitute a full award.

 

Mature Students Requirements
Mature students (defined as over 23 on January 1st of the year of entry), do not require the above minimum entry requirements and acceptance will be based on experiential learning, commitment to course objectives and an interview with the employer.
Mature students can be assessed in the interview using the form and guide available from the programme team.

 

English language requirements

All programmes are delivered through English, so applicants must be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of English language proficiency.


If English is not your first language, and you do not hold an equivalent qualification in English (e.g. Leaving Certificate, GCSE, or equivalent), you will be required to provide evidence of your proficiency through one of the recognised English language tests listed on the link below.

There are 3 stages of the application process (you will be notified after each stage if you are successful to move to the next one)

This role will be based in our Wexford office. You will be expected to work on-site for the first 3-6 months. The role will then move to the hybrid model. 
This is a full time earn and learn position; you will receive one day to study per week to complete online lectures which will attended on-site in our Wexford office. 
There will be a requirement to travel to Atlantic Technological University Sligo, 2-3 times per year.

By the end of your three‑year apprenticeship, you’ll hold a BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice (Apprenticeship), along with your APA and CIP qualifications, plus valuable professional development experience.

Allianz Apprenticeship Programme 2026 

We are excited to announce the launch of our 2026 Apprenticeship Programme with the Insurance Institute of Ireland (III) and Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo. This is a unique opportunity to join Allianz Ireland while earning a Level 8 degree in Business Studies and completing professional insurance qualifications (APA and CIP). 

As an Allianz Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience in a specific business area, such as Customer Service & Sales, Claims, or Underwriting, based on your skills and interests. You will be assigned to one department for the duration of your apprenticeship, allowing you to develop deep expertise and build strong relationships within your team. 

 

Role Responsibilities  

In line with the Apprenticeship guidelines, Apprentices may be assigned to various departments throughout the business: Allianz Direct (Customer Service and Sales), Claims or Underwriting. 

Your responsibilities will vary depending on the department you are assigned to. Key responsibilities may include: 

  • Customer Engagement: Provide exceptional service to new and existing customers by quoting, converting, renewing, and maintaining general insurance policies. 
  • Claims Management: Accurately process claims, ensuring all information is logged comprehensively and efficiently. 
  • Communication: Handle inbound and outbound calls, emails, and general administration tasks with professionalism and attention to detail. 
  • Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve customer issues, exceeding expectations while acting with integrity. 
  • Collaboration: Work as part of a high-performing team, contributing to the achievement of individual and departmental targets. 
  • Compliance: Adhere to company quality standards, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements, including the Financial Regulator’s Minimum Competency Code and Consumer Protection Code.

The Apprenticeship Programme is a work-based learning initiative that requires timely submission of on-the-job assessments, attendance at ATU Sligo, and successful completion of APA, CIP, and degree exams. 

 

Key Requirements / Skills & Experience
